She attended Milverton Junior and Infant School and pursued higher education at Wolverhampton University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages and International Relations.

Her adventurous spirit led her to live in several countries, including France, Germany, and Japan, where she taught English in the early 1990s. In the early 1990s, Amter made the significant decision to move to Los Angeles, California, to further her acting career.
