Marina Pierro
Marina Pierro, born on October 9, 1956 (or 1960), is a multi-talented Italian actress, model, writer, and director, renowned for her artistic collaboration with the celebrated Polish filmmaker Walerian Borowczyk (1923-2006). Often regarded as an "erotic icon of auteur cinema," Pierro has made a significant mark in the film industry.
Her acting career took off in 1976 with minor roles in various Italian productions, including Luchino Visconti's last film, L'innocente (The Innocent). She gained early recognition as an uncredited extra in Dario Argento's horror classic Suspiria (1977). Pierro's breakout performance came in 1978, portraying Sister Veronica, a self-proclaimed stigmatic nun, in Borowczyk's film Interno di un Convento (Behind Convent Walls), inspired by Stendhal's Promenades dans Rome.
Her fruitful partnership with Borowczyk spanned around a decade, yielding five feature films and a television project. Although her on-screen presence diminished after the late 1980s, Pierro transitioned to directing, producing, and starring in three short films: In Versi (2008), Himorogi (2012), and Floaters (2016), showcasing her diverse talents behind the camera. Through her work, Marina Pierro has left an indelible imprint on European cinema, blending art and sensuality in her unique style.
