Ron Tauranac (January 13, 1925 – July 17, 2020) was a prominent British-Australian engineer and racing car designer, celebrated for his impactful role in the world of motorsport. Born in Gillingham, Kent, England, he moved to Australia in his youth, where his passion for engineering took shape. In the 1950s, alongside his brother Austin, he crafted hillclimb vehicles under the name 'Ralt,' which combined their initials.

Tauranac gained recognition for his partnership with legendary Australian driver Jack Brabham. Together, they established Motor Racing Developments in the early 1960s, producing cars that competed under the Brabham brand. His engineering acumen was crucial to Brabham's consecutive Formula 1 World Championships in 1966 and 1967. Following Brabham’s retirement in 1970, Tauranac assumed full leadership of the team, eventually selling it to Bernie Ecclestone in 1972.

In 1974, Tauranac reintroduced the 'Ralt' brand, developing highly successful racing cars for Formula 2, Formula 3, and other series. These vehicles dominated the racing scene throughout the 1970s and 1980s, known for their simplicity, durability, and competitive edge. Tauranac's designs not only shaped the landscape of motorsport but also left an enduring legacy in the field of racing engineering, solidifying his status as a key figure in the industry.
