Howard Lew Lewis was a celebrated English comedian and actor, particularly recognized for his work in the 1980s sitcom "Brush Strokes" and the beloved children's series "Maid Marian and Her Merry Men," created by Tony Robinson. Before embarking on his acting career, Lewis served in the Royal Air Force as a computer operator and later held managerial roles in computing and telecommunications for several years.

Throughout his career, Lewis made notable appearances in several productions featuring Ronnie Barker, including "The Magnificent Evans" and "Open All Hours," and he played a part in the inaugural series of the iconic show "Blackadder." His filmography includes memorable roles such as Hal in "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves," a guard in Terry Gilliam's surreal film "Brazil," and a part in Richard Attenborough's "Chaplin." Additionally, he lent his voice to the character Obelix in the animated feature "Asterix in America" released in 1994.

In his later years, Lewis faced significant health challenges, battling diabetes and dementia. He was admitted to a community hospital in Edinburgh in 2017, where he sadly passed away on January 20, 2018. Following his death, an investigation was initiated by Police Scotland in response to claims made by his daughter, Debora Milazzo, regarding the treatment he received in the hospital. Ultimately, no evidence was found to support the allegations.
