Alexandre-Pierre Georges Guitry, better known as Sacha Guitry (21 February 1885 – 24 July 1957), was a distinguished French actor, director, playwright, and screenwriter, celebrated for his contributions to boulevard theatre. Born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, he was the son of renowned actor Lucien Guitry, which set the stage for Sacha's own illustrious career in the performing arts. He made his theatrical debut at just five years old and eventually became famous for his charismatic portrayals in comedic roles.

Over his prolific career, Guitry authored an impressive 115 plays, showcasing a versatile range that included both historical dramas and light-hearted comedies, often accompanied by music from notable composers like André Messager and Reynaldo Hahn. While he initially shied away from silent films, he fully embraced the cinematic medium in the 1930s, directing and starring in numerous films, sometimes producing up to five a year.

Guitry's personal life saw him married five times, often to actresses whose careers he helped advance, with Yvonne Printemps being the most notable of his spouses. However, his later years were marred by controversy when he faced accusations of collaboration during the German occupation of France in World War II. Despite the charges being cleared, the scandal affected his reputation. By the time of his passing, Guitry had regained the admiration of the public, evidenced by the 12,000 mourners who paid their respects at his funeral in Paris.
