Anil Kapoor
Anil Kapoor, born in 1959 to Surinder and Nirmal (also known as Suchitra Kapoor), grew up in a humble chawl in Tilak Nagar, Mumbai. He is the youngest of four siblings, which includes elder brother Boney, sister Reena, and younger brother Sanjay. His father worked as a secretary for the legendary Shammi Kapoor, which may have sparked Anil's early interest in acting.
An introverted child, Anil attended Our Lady of Perpetual Succor School and developed a passion for Bollywood films, especially those screened during the annual Ganesh Maha Utsav. Inspired by the iconic Raj Kapoor, he began to mimic his idol, landing a child role alongside Shashi Kapoor in the unlaunched film Tu Payal Main Geet.
After completing school, Anil enrolled at St. Xavier's College, where he frequently traveled from Chembur to Bombay V.T. on public transport. However, due to his scattered focus, he was expelled in his second year and faced disappointment when he failed the entrance exam for the Pune Film Institute. Undeterred, he enrolled in Roshan Taneja's Acting School.
Anil’s film debut came in the character role of Hamhare Tumhare, followed by his first leading performance in Woh 7 Din. Since then, he has appeared in nearly 100 films and currently has five more in production. Notably, he starred in the acclaimed film Slumdog Millionaire, which won an Academy Award, and received praise for his role in the American series 24.
In 1984, Anil married the elegant model Sunita Bhambhani, with whom he has three children: actress Sonam Kapoor, producer Rhea Kapoor, and son Harshwardhan Kapoor. Today, Anil Kapoor is celebrated as one of the most prominent Indian actors on the global stage.
