Jon Thor Birgisson
Jónsi, whose full name is Jón Þór Birgisson, is the acclaimed guitarist and lead vocalist of the renowned Icelandic post-rock ensemble Sigur Rós. He has gained recognition for his unique guitar playing technique, often employing a cello bow, as well as his ethereal falsetto voice. Jónsi, who is visually impaired in his right eye, has also been an influential figure in the music and art communities.
Openly gay, he shares a close personal and professional relationship with his partner, Alex Somers, who has played a pivotal role in shaping the visual identity of Sigur Rós through his graphic design work. Together, they collaborate under the name Jónsi & Alex, showcasing their artistic synergy.
In November 2006, the duo released their debut art book, a limited edition embossed hardcover that was capped at 1,000 copies. This was followed by their first album, "Riceboy Sleeps," which was launched in July 2009, further solidifying their artistic vision.
