Won Jin
**Won Jin**
Won Jin is a distinguished South Korean martial arts master, celebrated primarily for his memorable portrayal of Sonny Wong in the film *The Scorpion King* (also known as *Operation Scorpio*) and his innovative action direction in the *My Wife Is A Gangster* series.
From a young age, Jin began training in Taekwondo at just seven years old, developing a distinctive kicking and acrobatic style that was groundbreaking for its time. His fascination with martial arts was greatly influenced by the legendary Bruce Lee, particularly his use of nunchaku. Over the years, he expanded his skill set by studying various disciplines, including Hapkido and Wushu.
In the late 1970s, he honed his talents at the YMCA Mechanical Gymnastics Club alongside Elton Jeong and joined the Ottogi Martial Arts Team, marking the beginning of his film career with a debut in 1979. Initially, he took on supporting roles in Korean martial arts films, but by 1988, he secured his first leading role.
The early 1990s saw Jin send out a demo tape that caught the attention of director David Lai, leading to roles in several Hong Kong productions, with *The Scorpion King* being a standout. This film solidified his status as a cult figure within the martial arts community. After a successful stint abroad, he returned to Korea, establishing himself as one of the country's premier action directors and continuing to promote martial arts, earning numerous accolades throughout his career.
