Samuel Eto'o
Samuel Eto'o Fils, born on March 10, 1981, is a retired professional footballer from Cameroon, celebrated for his prowess as a striker. Widely acknowledged as one of the greatest African footballers in history, Eto'o earned the prestigious African Player of the Year award four times, in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2010.
Eto'o's football journey began at Real Madrid, where he joined as a teenager at 16. However, competition for first-team opportunities led to several loan stints before he found success at Mallorca, netting 70 goals. His stellar performance caught the attention of FC Barcelona, where he made a significant impact from 2004 to 2009, scoring 130 goals and setting the record for most La Liga appearances by an African player. During this period, he played a crucial role in Barcelona's triumphs, including the 2006 and 2009 UEFA Champions League victories, scoring in both finals. His accolades include finishing third in the FIFA World Player of the Year in 2005 and being named in the FIFA FIFPro World XI twice.
In the 2009-10 season, Eto'o joined Inter Milan, making history as the first player to win consecutive European trebles with different clubs. Following stints at Anzhi Makhachkala, Chelsea, Everton, and Sampdoria, he found renewed success in the Süper Lig with Antalyaspor, scoring 44 times in 76 appearances. Eto'o also represented Cameroon in four World Cups and six Africa Cup of Nations, contributing to their Olympic gold medal win in 2000 and the Africa Cup victories in 2000 and 2002. He announced his international retirement in August 2014.
