Bolaji Badejo

1 title Acting Aug 23, 1953 Died: Dec 22, 1992 Nigeria

Bolaji Badejo was a talented Nigerian design student best recognized for his unique role as the titular Alien in Ridley Scott's iconic 1979 film, "Alien." Despite the film's lasting legacy, this was Badejo's sole foray into acting.

Diagnosed with sickle cell anemia during childhood, Bolaji faced significant health challenges throughout his life. Tragically, he succumbed to complications from the disease on December 22, 1992, just months after celebrating his 39th birthday, while being treated at St. Stephen Hospital in Ebute Metta, Lagos.

Badejo's journey into the world of film began somewhat unexpectedly in early 1977 when he was approached by casting director Peter Archer at a bar. The production team was in search of an exceptionally tall and slender individual to embody the Alien, and Ivor Powell, the film's associate producer, noted the importance of finding someone with long limbs. Prior attempts to cast the iconic role included various female models, a family of contortionists, and even Peter Mayhew, known for portraying Chewbacca in "Star Wars." Ultimately, Bolaji Badejo's distinctive physique made him the perfect fit for a character that left a lasting impact on the science fiction genre.
