Perry Bamonte
Perry Archangelo Bamonte, born on September 3, 1960, in London, England, is a distinguished musician and illustrator recognized primarily for his tenure with the iconic rock band The Cure. His journey with the band began in 1984 when he initially served as a guitar technician. He became a full-fledged member in 1990, stepping in as a keyboardist following the unexpected departure of Roger O'Donnell. Bamonte showcased his versatility by contributing both guitar and keyboard parts to The Cure's celebrated 1992 album, *Wish*. After Porl Thompson left in 1993, he expanded his role to include lead guitar responsibilities, while O'Donnell rejoined in 1995 to resume keyboard duties. Throughout his career with the band, Bamonte left his mark on several albums, including *Wild Mood Swings* and *Bloodflowers*, and is credited with co-writing tracks like “Trust,” “This Is a Lie,” and “Anniversary.”
In 2005, Bamonte and O'Donnell were let go by lead singer Robert Smith, aiming to reshape the band's lineup. Despite the surprise of the situation, the relationships remained cordial. In 2012, he played bass for the London band Love Amongst Ruin during their tour for *Lose Your Way*. Bamonte was honored to join his bandmates for The Cure's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019 and made his return to the group in 2022 as a guitarist and keyboardist during their “Lost World Tour.” An avid fly fisherman, he also contributes illustrations to the quarterly magazine *Fly Culture*. His brother, Daryl Bamonte, has worked with The Cure as a tour manager.
