Piroska Molnár
Piroska Molnár, born on October 1, 1945, in Ózd, is a distinguished Hungarian actress celebrated for her significant contributions to the performing arts. She holds prestigious accolades including the Kossuth Prize and the Jászai Mari Prize, and is recognized as a National Artist of Hungary. A permanent member of the Immortal Ensemble, she also serves as a faculty member at the University of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest.
The daughter of József Molnár and Viktória Andrássi, Piroska experienced a challenging childhood marked by her father's absence due to Soviet captivity. After settling in Kunágota, she graduated from a vocational school in economics in Szeged, following her mother's advice to pursue a stable career. In 1968, she graduated from the University of Theatre and Film Arts, subsequently joining the Szeged National Theatre until 1971. She later performed at the Csiky Gergely Theatre in Kaposvár and was a founding member of the Katona József Theatre in Budapest from 1982.
Piroska has starred in numerous acclaimed productions, including leading roles in musical works like "Csárdáskirálynő" and "Ármány és szerelem," earning the Critics' Award for her performance in 2010. She collaborated with contemporary composer György Kurtág in the 2008 production "What is the Word," which premiered at the Academy of Music and toured internationally.
In 2010, she established the Nagymama Award to support promising young actors in Kaposvár. In 2011, she was named a National Artist of Hungary and became a prominent character on the television series "Munkaügyek." Piroska was previously married to composer Péter Eötvös, with whom she has one son, György, who sadly passed away in 1995.
