Kate Moennig
Katherine Sian Moennig, born on December 29, 1977, is an accomplished American actress renowned for her portrayal of Shane McCutcheon in the groundbreaking series The L Word, as well as her character Jake Pratt in Young Americans. In 2009, she took on the role of Dr. Miranda Foster in the CBS medical drama Three Rivers. Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Moennig is the daughter of Broadway dancer Mary Zahn and violin maker William H. Moennig III, and she has German, Scottish, and Irish heritage.
At the age of 18, Moennig relocated to New York City to attend the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, where she honed her craft. Throughout her career, she has embraced diverse roles, particularly those depicting lesbian characters in productions such as The L Word, Everybody's Fine, and Art School Confidential. She has also explored transgender themes, auditioning for the role of Brandon Teena in the film Boys Don't Cry and portraying Cheryl Avery, a young transgender woman, on Law & Order. In 2007, Moennig collaborated with the Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI) to create the documentary My Address: A Look At Gay Youth Homelessness in New York, highlighting an important social issue.
