Vikram
Vikram, originally named Kennedy John Victor, is a notable Indian film actor primarily known for his work in Tamil cinema. Over the years, he has garnered significant acclaim, winning seven Filmfare Awards, a National Film Award, and a Tamil Nadu State Film Award, among other honors. In recognition of his contributions to the arts, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the People's University of Milan in May 2011.
His cinematic journey began with the 1990 film En Kadhal Kanmani, after which he took on various roles in low-budget Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu films throughout the 1990s, many of which did not achieve commercial success. However, everything changed with his compelling performance in Bala's tragic film Sethu (1999), where he portrayed a troubled character who transforms into a loving partner, marking a turning point in his career.
Beyond acting, Vikram is deeply committed to social causes. He served as the Youth Envoy for the United Nations Human Settlements Programme in 2011 and has been an active supporter of initiatives like the Sanjeevani Trust and Vidya Sudha, a school for special needs children. He is also associated with the Kasi Eye Care initiative and founded the Vikram Foundation to support various welfare activities. In 2016, he directed and produced the flood relief anthem, Spirit of Chennai, as a heartfelt tribute to the city's volunteers after the devastating floods of 2015.
