Paula Tsui Siu-Fung
Paula Tsui Siu-Fung (徐小鳳), born in Hubei, China, is the eldest of six siblings, comprising three brothers and two sisters. Her family relocated to Hong Kong during her infancy, and it is here that she spent her formative years. After completing high school, Tsui began her professional journey as a nail technician and hairstylist at her father’s salon.
A self-described mischievous child, Tsui found solace in music, often displaying a rebellious spirit. While she enjoyed her music classes, her defiance was evident when she opted to sing pop songs instead of the school hymns assigned by her teacher. This unpredictability marked her youth, characterized by a series of job changes as she sought her true passion.
A pivotal moment in Tsui’s life occurred in 1965 when she participated in a singing competition, initially hesitant to join. Persuaded by friends who insisted they wouldn’t compete without her, she ultimately won the contest, which set her on the path to stardom. Despite her parents' initial disapproval of her singing career, viewing it as shameful, Tsui persevered and eventually gained their support, promising to remain steadfast in her pursuits.
Throughout her illustrious career, Tsui became a celebrated figure in the Hong Kong music scene, known for her powerful voice and captivating performances. While protective of her personal life, it was revealed in the 1990s that she had been married to radio host Albert Cheng from 1975 to 1979. Currently, Tsui resides in Canada, continuing to inspire fans with her dedication to music.
