Tiago Hespanha

Tiago Hespanha completed his undergraduate studies in architecture in 2004, followed by a master's degree in creative documentary from Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona in 2012. Since 2008, he has been a partner at the production company TERRATREME. In 2006, he enhanced his skills by attending a documentary filmmaking workshop organized by Ateliers Varan in Lisbon, which was supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. This experience paved the way for him to work as a director on his own films, and he has also assumed various roles in other productions. In 2009, Hespanha served as a trainee at Ateliers Varan in Paris. Additionally, he is an educator at the DOCNOMADS - European Documentary Master Course.

Among his directorial works are: INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION, co-directed with Frederico Lobo, which premiered at “Visions du Réel” in Nyon, Switzerland, in 2014; GUIDED TOUR, which won the Audience Award at Indielisboa in 2009; THE GIFT FROM AFAR, featured in the "So close, So far" DVD collection by Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in 2008; and GROUND GLASS I and II, which received the first prize at Lisbon's Microfilms Festival in 2007. His other notable films include SHOW HOME (2007) and QUINTA DA CURRALEIRA, which was honored with the Primeiro Olhar Award at the “Encontros de Cinema e Video de Viana do Castelo” in 2006.
