James Simon Wallis Hunt (29 August 1947 – 15 June 1993) was a prominent British racing driver renowned for clinching the Formula One World Championship in 1976. After hanging up his racing gloves in 1979, Hunt transitioned into a successful career as a media commentator and entrepreneur.

Hunt's journey in motorsport began with touring car racing before he made a name for himself in Formula Three, where his talent caught the eye of Hesketh Racing. His daring and sometimes reckless driving style earned him the nickname "Hunt the Shunt." He made his Formula One debut in 1973 with the Hesketh Racing team, driving a March 731. Hunt soon found success with the Hesketh 308, winning both World Championship and non-Championship events. By the end of 1975, he joined McLaren, where he achieved his greatest triumph by securing the 1976 World Drivers' Championship. He continued with McLaren for two more seasons, though with less notable achievements, before moving to the Wolf team in early 1979. However, a series of disappointing finishes led to his retirement mid-season.

Post-retirement, Hunt became a familiar voice in the sport, providing commentary for the BBC. His expertise, sharp wit, and candid criticism of underperforming drivers garnered him a loyal following. Hunt passed away from a heart attack at the age of 45 and was posthumously inducted into the Motor Sport Hall of Fame on January 29, 2014.
