He has masterminded several challenging events that test the limits of human endurance, including the infamous Barkley Marathons, the Big's Backyard Ultra, and the Barkley Fall Classic. Other notable races he has created are the Vol State 500K, A Race for the Ages, the Last Annual Heart of the South, and the Strolling Jim 40.

In 2018, Lazarus Lake undertook an extraordinary feat by traversing the United States on foot. Setting off from Rhode Island, he completed his journey in Oregon, showcasing not only his physical endurance but also his deep passion for long-distance running.
