Lillian Bronson
Lillian Bronson (October 21, 1902 - August 2, 1995) was a prominent American character actress renowned for her extensive work in both film and television. Over her prolific career, she appeared in more than 80 films, with 60 of those spanning from 1939 to 1964. Additionally, Bronson showcased her talent in over a hundred television productions between 1949 and 1975.
Born Lillian Rumsey Bronson in Lockport, New York, she was the daughter of a carriage builder and pursued her education at the University of Michigan. Her acting journey began on Broadway, where she honed her craft. During the Great Depression, alongside her late sister, Dorothy, she co-founded the Bronson Studio in New York, creating toy animals and decorative pillows.
In 1943, Bronson took on the role of Mattie Dyer in the film Happy Land. She made her television debut in the 1949 episode "The Druid Circle" of The Philco Television Playhouse, portraying Miss Dagnall. Throughout the early years of television until the mid-1970s, she became a familiar face in numerous series, particularly in Westerns. One of her most memorable roles was as the grandmother in the popular series Kings Row.
Bronson's last television appearance was as "Grandma Nussbaum," Fonzie's grandmother, in the beloved sitcom Happy Days, which aired on September 9, 1975. Her final film role came in Kisses for My President (1964), where she portrayed Miss Currier.
