Dimple Kapadia
Dimple Kapadia, born on June 8, 1957, is a prominent Indian actress renowned for her work in Hindi cinema. She made her debut at the tender age of 16 under the direction of Raj Kapoor, captivating audiences with her performance in the romantic film Bobby (1973). That same year, she married the celebrated actor Rajesh Khanna and momentarily stepped away from the film industry. After her separation from Khanna in 1984, Kapadia made a strong comeback, with the notable drama Saagar (1985) marking her return. Both Bobby and Saagar earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress, solidifying her status as a leading figure in Bollywood during the 1980s.
Initially celebrated as a national sex symbol, Kapadia was determined to diversify her roles and avoid typecasting. She embraced more serious characters across various genres, earning acclaim for her performances in films like Kaash (1987), Drishti (1990), Lekin... (1990), and Rudaali (1993), the latter of which earned her a National Film Award for Best Actress. She also received a Filmfare Critics Award for her remarkable work.
Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Kapadia's roles became less frequent but noteworthy, with memorable appearances in Dil Chahta Hai (2001) and the American film Leela (2002). She continued to make her mark with lead roles in films like Hum Kaun Hai? (2004) and Tum Milo Toh Sahi (2010), as well as supporting roles in popular films such as Dabangg (2010) and Cocktail (2012). Dimple Kapadia is also the proud mother of Twinkle Khanna and Rinke Khanna, both of whom are former actresses.
