Sir Harry Donald Secombe, CBE (8 September 1921 – 11 April 2001), was a celebrated Welsh comedian and singer, best known for his iconic role as Neddie Seagoon in the beloved BBC radio comedy series The Goon Show, which aired from 1951 to 1960. Beyond his radio fame, Secombe showcased his talents in musicals and films, transitioning seamlessly into a television presenter in his later years, often featuring hymns and devotional music.

Secombe's career flourished with The Goon Show, allowing him to pursue a dual path as both a comedic actor and a vocalist. Early in his entertainment journey, he would often conclude his performances with a humorous rendition of the duet "Sweethearts," where he sang both baritone and falsetto parts. His vocal training under the esteemed Italian maestro Manlio di Veroli equipped him with the skills of a bel canto tenor, and he enjoyed significant commercial success with numerous best-selling albums.

In 1958, he made his mark on the silver screen with a role in Jet Storm, alongside Dame Sybil Thorndike and Richard Attenborough, and also starred in the title role of Davy, one of Ealing Studios' final productions.

Recognized for his contributions to the arts, Secombe was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1963 and was knighted in 1981. With a playful nod to his stature, he humorously dubbed himself "Sir Cumference," choosing "GO ON" as the motto for his coat of arms, a tribute to his Goon Show roots.
