Halyna Hutchins was an accomplished cinematographer based in Los Angeles, known for her remarkable contributions to narrative filmmaking. Born in Ukraine in 1979, she spent her early years on a Soviet military base situated in the Arctic Circle. Hutchins pursued higher education in international journalism at Kyiv National University before shifting her focus to the film industry. After gaining experience as an investigative journalist on British documentaries, she relocated to Los Angeles to follow her passion for cinematography.

In 2015, Halyna graduated from the American Film Institute (AFI) Conservatory, quickly establishing herself as a rising talent in the field. Her skill and vision earned her recognition as one of American Cinematographer’s Rising Stars in 2019. The same year, she received accolades for her work on the film "Treacle," winning the best cinematography award at the English Riviera Film Festival. Additionally, Hutchins participated in the prestigious 21st Century Fox DP Lab in 2018, further solidifying her status within the industry.

Tragically, Hutchins' promising career was cut short on October 21, 2021, when she lost her life due to a fatal incident involving a prop weapon on the set of the film "Rust." In recognition of her exceptional contributions, she was posthumously honored as an honorary member of the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) on November 14, 2021, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire future generations of filmmakers.
