Abigail Disney
Abigail E. Disney is an Emmy-winning director, producer, and philanthropist, serving as the CEO and president of Fork Films. With a strong commitment to peacebuilding, she passionately advocates for women's involvement in public life. Her film projects often address critical social issues and amplify the voices of those challenging injustice.
Raised in a filmmaking family, Abigail was inspired to create documentaries that tell powerful stories, such as the impactful film *Pray the Devil Back to Hell*, which she co-directed with Gini Reticker. This documentary brought to light the heroic efforts of Leymah Gbowee, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate in 2011, who led nonviolent protests to end Liberia’s civil war. Together, they established Fork Films, recognized for producing and financing acclaimed documentaries distributed through platforms like PBS, Netflix, and HBO.
Beyond her directorial work, Fork Films has allocated over $4 million in grants to documentary projects that champion peace, human rights, and social justice, with a focus on initiatives led by women. Notable grantees include *Cameraperson*, *The Invisible War*, and *Hot Girls Wanted*, which have garnered recognition at major film festivals.
In 2009, Abigail founded Peace is Loud, a nonprofit organization aimed at promoting female leaders in peacebuilding through media and events. Her directorial debut, *The Armor of Light*, co-directed with Kathleen Hughes, premiered at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival and sparked vital discussions on gun violence in America.
Abigail also produced the groundbreaking PBS series *Women, War, & Peace*, which highlights women's roles in conflict resolution and has won several prestigious awards. An esteemed academic, she holds degrees from Yale, Stanford, and Columbia and is a dedicated mother of four.
