Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson, born on June 19, 1964, is a prominent British politician and author, who has served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2019. Prior to this, he held the position of Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs from 2016 to 2018 and was the Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson has represented Uxbridge and South Ruislip as a Member of Parliament since 2015, having previously served Henley from 2001 to 2008. His political philosophy is often associated with one-nation conservatism.

Johnson's academic journey began at Eton College, followed by a degree in Classics at Balliol College, Oxford, where he became President of the Oxford Union in 1986. He began his career in journalism as the Brussels correspondent and later political columnist for The Daily Telegraph, where he became a significant voice for Euroscepticism. He also served as the editor of The Spectator magazine from 1999 to 2005.

His tenure as Mayor of London was marked by substantial public engagement, and in 2016, he emerged as a leading figure in the Vote Leave campaign during the Brexit referendum. After Theresa May’s resignation, he became Conservative leader and prime minister, navigating complex Brexit negotiations and calling a snap election in December 2019, which resulted in a historic Conservative majority. His government faced the COVID-19 pandemic with various emergency measures, and while his leadership is seen as controversial, supporters appreciate his charisma, while critics label him as elitist and opportunistic.
