Timothy Ross Armstrong is a multifaceted American artist known for his impactful contributions to the music industry as a musician, singer, songwriter, producer, and actor. With a unique, soulful voice characterized by its raspy quality, he is best recognized as the frontman and guitarist of the influential punk rock band Rancid, as well as a member of the hip hop/punk rock collaboration Transplants. Before establishing Rancid, Armstrong was part of the seminal ska punk group Operation Ivy.

In 1997, he co-founded Hellcat Records with Brett Gurewitz, a key figure in punk music and the owner of Epitaph Records. Armstrong has also embraced the role of a solo artist, releasing music that shaped his career under the alias Tim Timebomb, including original songs and covers. His songwriting prowess has garnered him a Grammy Award, recognizing his collaborations with notable artists such as Jimmy Cliff, Pink, Joe Walsh, and the Interrupters.

Armstrong's journey began in Albany, California, where he met future bandmate Matt Freeman during Little League Baseball. Their shared passion for punk legends like the Clash and the Ramones led them to form bands throughout their youth. His personal life has also influenced his music; his relationship with Bikini Kill drummer Tobi Vail inspired the Rancid track "Olympia, WA." Armstrong was previously married to musician Brody Dalle from 1997 to 2003, a relationship that sparked themes in Rancid’s albums, particularly in songs from "Life Won't Wait" and "Indestructible."
