Her formative years were spent attending secondary schools in Rakke and Võhma before she pursued her passion for the performing arts. Rita enrolled at the Tallinn State Conservatory—currently known as the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre—where she honed her craft under the guidance of esteemed instructor Mikk Mikiver, graduating in 1984 alongside fellow talents such as Terje Pennie and Peeter Sauter.

In addition to her acting career, Rätsepp has a strong academic background in psychology. She furthered her education by earning a master’s degree in social sciences with a focus on psychology from University Nord in Tallinn in 2008.
