Stephen Yardley
Stephen Yardley, born on March 24, 1942, is a distinguished English actor whose career spans four decades, primarily in television. He honed his craft at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating in 1963, and quickly made a name for himself on British screens from 1964 until 2004.
In the mid-1960s, Yardley became a foundational member of the Dundee Repertory Theatre, where he developed his theatrical skills. His early television roles include appearances in series like *Danger Man* and *United!*, followed by a notable stint in the crime drama *Z-Cars* from 1967 to 1968. Yardley gained further recognition for portraying the cat burglar William "Spider" Scott in *The XYY Man* (1976–77) and Detective Inspector Laker in the pioneering episode of *The Sweeney*. His versatility shone through in various roles, such as Max Brocard in *Secret Army* (1978) and as a hitman in *The Professionals* episode "Hijack" (1980).
A prominent figure in the *Doctor Who* universe, Yardley played Sevrin in *Genesis of the Daleks* (1975) and Arak in *Vengeance on Varos* (1985). His credits also include the science fiction series *Blake's 7* (1981) and the BBC's adaptation of *The Day of the Triffids* (1981).
Yardley's long-running role as Ken Masters in the BBC series *Howards' Way* (1985–90) and his later appearances in *Heartbeat* (1996) and *Family Affairs* (1999–2003) showcase his enduring presence in British television. His most recent performance was in the Sky One series *Hex* (2004).
