Jane Gail, originally named Ethel S. Magee, was a prominent figure in early American cinema and theater, born in Salem, New York. She is best known for her impactful performances during the silent film era, particularly in the 1913 classic *Traffic in Souls*, where she captivated audiences with her dramatic portrayal. Gail gained significant recognition for her role as the endangered fiancée of Dr. Jekyll, played by King Baggot, in the same year’s adaptation of *Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde*, a performance that solidified her fame.

Before transitioning to film, Gail showcased her talent on Broadway, participating in notable productions such as *The Rack* and *The City*. Throughout her career, she appeared in 19 films from 1912 to 1920. Her filmography includes a brief appearance in the earlier 1912 version of *Jekyll and Hyde*, albeit in a minor role.
