Dale Ishimoto

Dale Ishimoto (April 3, 1923 – March 4, 2004) was a celebrated American actor of Japanese heritage, born in Delta, Colorado, and raised in Guadalupe, California. His early life was marked by adversity, as Ishimoto was interned at the Gila River camp during World War II. Demonstrating remarkable courage, he volunteered for military service and joined the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, a distinguished unit comprised mainly of Japanese Americans. After two years of service, he earned a Purple Heart and received a medical discharge.

Following the war, Ishimoto embarked on a business venture in Chicago before returning to his Californian roots to pursue acting. He began his career at the Altadena Playhouse, soon becoming known for his portrayals of antagonistic Japanese soldiers in various films. His extensive filmography includes notable roles such as a Japanese army captain in *Beach Red* (1967), a Korean doctor in *M*A*S*H* (1970), a karate instructor in *Superchick* (1973), and Vice Admiral Boshiro Hosogaya in *Midway* (1976).

In the late 1990s, Ishimoto gained renewed fame through a series of television commercials for Nissan, where he portrayed the company's former president, Yutaka Katayama. He also made a guest appearance in an episode of *Wanted: Dead or Alive*. His diverse career left a lasting impact on the entertainment industry and showcased his versatility as an actor.
