Jeffrey Roger Kanew, born on December 16, 1944, is a distinguished American filmmaker recognized for his versatile contributions as a director, writer, and editor. Early in his career, Kanew gained prominence by creating trailers for numerous films during the 1970s, but he is most widely celebrated for his work on the cult classic "Revenge of the Nerds," released in 1984.

In 1986, Kanew directed "Tough Guys," which marked the final collaboration between the legendary acting duo Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster. His partnership with Douglas extended beyond this film; he also directed the actor in "Eddie Macon's Run," released in 1983, as well as the stage and film versions of Douglas's autobiographical one-man show, "Before I Forget," in 2009.

Additionally, Kanew showcased his documentary filmmaking skills with "Black Rodeo" in 1972, which chronicled the historic first all-Black rodeo performance in Harlem, New York City. This work highlighted his commitment to capturing unique cultural narratives.
