Stig Anderson
Stig "Stikkan" Anderson, born in 1931 in Hova, Sweden, embarked on his musical journey at the tender age of 16 when he composed his first song. By the 1960s, he had established himself as a prominent songwriter, lyricist, and music publisher, laying the groundwork for a significant music enterprise. In 1963, he co-founded Polar Music alongside Bengt Bernhag, where they signed the popular Hootenanny Singers, featuring a young Björn Ulvaeus.
Stig was instrumental in recognizing the songwriting talent of Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, later uniting them with Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid "Frida" Lyngstad to create the iconic pop group ABBA. While he contributed lyrics and catchy titles to several ABBA hits, his primary role revolved around managing the group, shifting his focus to business after 1977.
A tireless worker, Stig's relentless dedication to his craft took a toll on his health in his later years. He passed away from a heart attack in 1997 at the age of 66. His legacy continues to resonate through the Polar Music Prize, an award he established in 1992 to honor exceptional achievements in music. Stig Anderson's contributions have left an indelible mark on the music industry and continue to inspire future generations of musicians.
