Cecile van Welie
Cecile van Welie was born on January 6, 2002, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to parents of Dutch and Arab heritage.
Her journey into the world of performing arts began at the tender age of eight when she took the stage for her first theatrical production. This early enthusiasm paved the way for her formal theater training, leading to her debut in film at the age of twelve. Since then, Cecile has been dedicated to building a career in acting, participating in a variety of cinematic projects.
In 2021, she gained significant recognition for her role as Sara in the Argentine-Dominican film *Carajita*, which not only marked her first leading role but also garnered her two nominations for her outstanding performance. Notably, *Carajita* became the first Dominican film to receive the Jury’s Special Mention for New Directors at the prestigious San Sebastián International Film Festival.
Cecile is currently expanding her repertoire with a second leading role as Liz in the forthcoming queer horror drama *No Salgas*. With a decade of experience and extensive training under her belt, she is well on her way to establishing herself as one of the most promising young talents emerging from the Dominican Republic’s film industry.
