Pauline Chan Bo-Lin
Pauline Chan Bo-Lin, originally named Chen Baolian, was born in Shanghai, China. At the age of 12, she relocated to Hong Kong with her mother following her parents' divorce. Her striking beauty quickly caught the eye of photographers, and by 15, she began her modeling career. In 1990, Chan participated in the Miss Asia beauty pageant, where her elegance and appearance garnered considerable attention, although she did not win.
At 18, she made her entry into the adult film industry, where her captivating performances propelled her to become one of the leading figures in Chinese adult entertainment. Her career flourished until 1997 when she entered into a tumultuous relationship with a Taiwanese millionaire that lasted two years. Following their separation in 1999, Chan's life began to spiral. Struggling with substance abuse, she faced numerous personal challenges, including a highly publicized incident during a television interview where she appeared under the influence and attempted suicide.
Her troubles continued with legal issues that led to deportations from several countries and a brief imprisonment in the UK for assault, effectively ending her film career. Chan returned to Shanghai and welcomed a son in July 2002. Unfortunately, motherhood did not alleviate her struggles, and on July 31, 2002, she tragically took her own life by jumping from her 24th-floor apartment.
