Gareth Armstrong
Gareth S. Armstrong is a distinguished Welsh actor, director, educator, and author, known for his extensive contributions to the performing arts. His journey began in his youth, performing in school productions at Bishop Gore School in Swansea. At just 16, he joined the National Youth Theatre, which set him on a path to study drama at Hull University.
Armstrong's stage career is marked by prominent performances across many of the UK's regional theatres, including Birmingham Rep, Nottingham Playhouse, and the Bristol Old Vic. He has developed a notable expertise in Shakespearean roles, portraying iconic characters such as Romeo, Richard III, Oberon, Macbeth, Shylock, and Prospero. His tenure with the Royal Shakespeare Company saw him perform in both Stratford and London, as well as on the West End, where he starred in works by celebrated playwrights like Noël Coward, Tom Stoppard, and Agatha Christie, with a recent appearance in Yes, Prime Minister in 2013. Additionally, he graced Shakespeare's Globe stage multiple times between 2008 and 2011.
In television, Armstrong's credits include popular series like Z-Cars, Doctor Who, Blake's 7, and EastEnders. He also lent his voice to the character Sandy in the English version of the Japanese series Saiyūki, also known as Monkey. With a rich portfolio of recorded audiobooks, Armstrong is currently undertaking the narration of Georges Simenon's Maigret novels for Audible. His play, A Critical Stage, which explores the life of theatre critic James Agate, premiered at the Tabard Theatre in London in June 2023.
