Pasqualino De Santis
Pasquale "Pasqualino" De Santis (April 24, 1927 – June 23, 1996) was a distinguished Italian cinematographer renowned for his significant contributions to the film industry.
Hailing from Fondi, Pasqualino was the sibling of acclaimed director Giuseppe De Santis. The two collaborated on several notable projects, including the films *Non c'è pace tra gli ulivi*, *Uomini e lupi* (1956), *La strada lunga un anno* (1958), and *La garçonnière* (1960), showcasing a dynamic partnership that enriched Italian cinema.
De Santis's talent shone brightly through his extensive collaborations with filmmaker Francesco Rosi, contributing to masterpieces such as *C'era una volta* (1967), *Uomini contro* (1970), *Il caso Mattei* (1972), *Lucky Luciano* (1974), *Cristo si è fermato a Eboli* (1979), and *Tre fratelli* (1981). His career also included notable works with celebrated directors like Luchino Visconti, evidenced in *La caduta degli dei* (1969) and *Death in Venice* (1971), as well as with Federico Fellini on *Fellini: A Director's Notebook* (1969).
De Santis's legacy continued until his untimely death in Ukraine while filming *La tregua* (1996). His artistic vision and technical prowess left an indelible mark on the world of cinematography, making him a revered figure in Italian film history.
