Al Matthews
Al Matthews, standing at 6 feet (1.83 m), was born on November 21, 1942, in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA. A talented folk singer and musical performer, he gained prominence during his time in England. Eventually, he shifted his focus to acting while still pursuing his passion for songwriting and performing. Matthews achieved two notable historical milestones during his lifetime. While serving in combat during the Vietnam War, he became the first African-American Marine to receive a meritorious promotion to the rank of Sergeant (E-5). Furthermore, he made history as the inaugural "black voice" on England's national broadcaster, Radio 1. Al Matthews passed away on September 22, 2018, in Alicante, Spain, just two months shy of his 76th birthday. He never entered into marriage and did not leave behind any immediate family.
