Van Ling
Van Ling is a distinguished visual effects supervisor, film producer, and innovative designer of DVD menus, notably for the iconic Star Wars series. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinema-Television, laying a strong foundation for a remarkable career in the film industry.
Ling commenced his professional journey as a visual effects supervisor on the groundbreaking film The Abyss and later ascended to head of production at Lightstorm Entertainment. His impressive portfolio includes work on numerous blockbuster films and acclaimed television series, such as Titanic, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, The Walking Dead, Starship Troopers, Dr. Dolittle, and Vanilla Sky. Additionally, he made a memorable cameo in James Cameron's Titanic, portraying a Chinese passenger named Fang Lang, who was famously rescued by Fifth Officer Harold Lowe.
An active participant in the film community, Van is a member of the Visual Effects Branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Producers Guild of America, and the Visual Effects Society, where he served six terms on the Board of Directors.
Beyond visual effects, Ling ventured into directing and writing with the indie drama Cliffs of Freedom, which features a stellar cast including Christopher Plummer, Billy Zane, and Patti LuPone, showcasing his versatility in the cinematic arts.
