Jean-Paul Wenzel
Jean-Paul Wenzel, born on July 13, 1947, in Saint-Étienne, France, is a distinguished playwright, director, and actor known for his significant contributions to French theater. With a German father and a French mother, Wenzel embarked on his artistic journey after studying at the School of Dramatic Art in Strasbourg from 1966 to 1969. He honed his craft under the guidance of esteemed directors such as Robert Gironès, Peter Brook, and Philippe Goyard, while also appearing in films directed by notable filmmakers like René Allio and Aki Kaurismäki.
Wenzel garnered widespread acclaim for his play *Far from Hagondange* (1974), which has been translated into eighteen languages and staged in twenty countries, earning the Critics' Prize in 1976. His impressive body of work includes other notable plays such as *Marianne Awaits Marriage* (1976), *Vater Land* (1984), *Faire Bleu* (1999), and *Margot* (2005), showcasing his talent for portraying everyday life with universal themes.
As an educator, Wenzel has made significant contributions to theater pedagogy, teaching at the Comédie de Saint-Étienne and leading the National Theater of Brittany from 1995 to 2000.
