Tony Mortimer
Anthony Michael Mortimer, born on October 21, 1970, in London, is a renowned British singer, songwriter, and record producer. He gained fame as a key member of the popular boy band East 17, which enjoyed significant success from 1991 to 1997, selling over 20 million records globally. Mortimer was the primary songwriter for the group, penning their iconic number-one hit, "Stay Another Day," among other chart-toppers.
During his tenure with East 17, Mortimer contributed to the band's impressive record of seven top ten singles and four successful albums on both the UK Singles Chart and UK Albums Chart. Following the band's split in 1997, triggered by adverse media attention surrounding fellow member Brian Harvey, Mortimer shifted his focus to songwriting and production. Although East 17 briefly re-formed without him in 1998, they disbanded again shortly after.
Mortimer's philanthropic efforts include writing the charity single "The Gift of Christmas" for Childline, featuring a host of popular artists like the Backstreet Boys and Boyzone. In 2010, East 17 reassembled, and Mortimer returned as the lead vocalist for their album Dark Light in 2012. The group toured extensively and released singles such as "I Can't Get You Off My Mind."
In addition to his musical pursuits, Mortimer has managed bands, including the girl group Urban Angel, and made television appearances on shows like Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Winter Wipeout. He released his debut solo album, Songs from the Suitcase, in June 2013, and in 2019, he revisited "Stay Another Day" with a new version featuring the Waltham Forest Youth Choir, supporting mental health initiatives.
