Bahman Ghobadi

Bahman Ghobadi, born in 1969 in Baneh, a city in Iranian Kurdistan near the Iran-Iraq border, has emerged as a prominent filmmaker known for his poignant storytelling and unique perspective. After completing his studies at the National Audiovisual School, he quickly gained recognition with his first short film, "Life in Fog" (1999), which is celebrated as one of the most significant short films in Iranian cinema. This initial success paved the way for Ghobadi's transition into feature filmmaking, with his debut feature, "A Time for Drunken Horses" (2000), marking a historic moment as the first Kurdish film produced in Iran.

Ghobadi's films consistently resonated with audiences at international film festivals, earning numerous accolades despite facing limited visibility in his home country. His body of work reflects the struggles and resilience of the Kurdish people, with films that often explore themes of identity and hardship.
