Hindi Zahra

Hindi Zahra, born on January 20, 1979, in Khouribga, Morocco, is a celebrated Moroccan singer and songwriter known for her distinctive sound that blends various musical influences. She adopted her stage name by reversing her birth name, creating a unique identity in the music industry. While her music primarily features English lyrics, she also incorporates her Berber Shilha heritage, evident in tracks like "Imik Si Mik."

Zahra's musical style has drawn comparisons to iconic artists such as Billie Holiday, Norah Jones, and Patti Smith, influenced by the sounds of Cheikha Rimitti and Umm Kulthum. Raised by her mother, a dancer and actress, Zahra moved to Paris at the age of fifteen to live with her father, a former soldier, where she later worked at the Louvre Museum.

A self-taught multi-instrumentalist, Zahra began crafting her own lyrics and melodies, resulting in around 50 songs by 2005. Her debut EP, released in 2009, featured notable tracks like "Beautiful Tango" and "Stand Up," with the latter gaining wider recognition through a commercial campaign for Western Union. In January 2010, her first album was launched under Blue Note Records, followed by a successful collaboration with French artist Blundetto.

Zahra's accolades include the Prix Constantin for Best Album in 2010 and the Victoires de la Musique award for Best World Music Album in 2011. She has also ventured into acting, appearing in films such as "The Narrow Frame of Midnight" and "The Cut." In April 2015, she released her second studio album, "Homeland," further solidifying her place in the music scene.
