Courtney Michelle Love, born Harrison on July 9, 1964, is a multifaceted American artist known for her roles as a singer, guitarist, songwriter, and actress. Emerging from the vibrant alternative and grunge movements of the 1990s, Love's career has spanned over four decades. She gained fame as the frontwoman and rhythm guitarist of the band Hole, which she established in 1989. Love's dynamic stage presence and provocative lyrics, coupled with her tumultuous personal life—especially her marriage to Nirvana's Kurt Cobain—have kept her in the public eye. In 2020, NME recognized her as one of the most influential voices in alternative music over the past thirty years.

Raised in a countercultural environment in San Francisco, Love experienced a peripatetic childhood but spent much of her early life in Portland, Oregon, where she engaged with the local punk scene and played in various bands. Following a stint in juvenile hall, she lived in Dublin and Liverpool before turning to acting. Love appeared in notable films like Sid and Nancy (1986) and Straight to Hell (1987) before forming Hole in Los Angeles with Eric Erlandson. Their debut album, produced by Kim Gordon, garnered critical acclaim, while the follow-up, Live Through This (1994), achieved significant commercial success.

Transitioning back to acting, she earned a Golden Globe nomination for her role in The People vs. Larry Flynt (1996). Love continued to act in films like Man on the Moon (1999) and released her first solo album, America's Sweetheart, in 2004. Although her career faced challenges due to legal and personal issues, she released the album Nobody's Daughter in 2010 under the Hole name. More recently, Love has been writing new music and has ventured into literature, co-creating the manga series Princess Ai and publishing her memoir, Dirty Blonde: The Diaries of Courtney Love, in 2006
