Javier Aguirre Fernández (June 13, 1935 – December 4, 2019) was a prominent Spanish film director, writer, and producer, renowned for his significant contributions to the world of cinema. Born in Donostia-San Sebastián, Spain, Aguirre's passion for film ignited during his youth, leading him to write for various entertainment publications such as Radiocinema and Film Ideal. At just 20, he established and led the San Sebastián Film Club, which played a crucial role in promoting film culture in the region. Between 1956 and 1957, he organized film courses and festivals, further cementing his commitment to the industry while studying at the Institute of Cinematographic Research and Experiences (IIEC).

Aguirre's directorial career commenced in 1961 with the short documentary "Pasajes tres," which earned the prestigious Golden Shell at the San Sebastián International Film Festival. Over his prolific career, he directed an impressive array of 45 feature films, 10 short films, 2 documentaries, and 25 documentary shorts, often taking on the roles of writer and producer for his projects. He is particularly celebrated among horror movie aficionados for his work on three notable Paul Naschy films: "El hunchback de la Morgue" (1973), "El gran amor del conde Drácula" (1973), and "El asesino está entre los trece." Aguirre's legacy continues to influence filmmakers and entertain audiences decades after his passing.
