Kobe Bryant
Kobe Bean Bryant (August 23, 1978 – January 26, 2020) was an iconic American basketball player who dedicated his entire 20-year professional career to the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA. He made the leap from high school to the NBA, where he achieved remarkable success, winning five NBA championships. Known for his relentless drive and skill, Bryant earned 18 All-Star selections, 15 All-NBA Team honors, and was named to the All-Defensive Team 12 times. He claimed the MVP title in 2008 and is celebrated as one of the greatest players in basketball history. Notably, he led the league in scoring twice and ranks fourth on both the all-time regular season and postseason scoring lists. Bryant holds the distinction of being the first guard to play 20 seasons in the NBA.
At just 34 years and 104 days old, he became the youngest player ever to reach 30,000 career points. Kobe surpassed Jerry West to become the all-time leading scorer in Lakers history on February 1, 2010. He made a record 18 consecutive All-Star Game appearances and won four All-Star MVP Awards, tying him with Bob Pettit for the most in league history. As a member of the U.S. national team, he secured gold medals at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. In 2018, he won an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for his work on "Dear Basketball."
Tragically, Bryant passed away in a helicopter crash on January 26, 2020, at the age of 41.
