Christopher John Dodd, born on May 27, 1944, is a prominent American lawyer, lobbyist, and politician affiliated with the Democratic Party. He made history as the longest-serving senator in Connecticut, holding office from 1981 until 2011. Prior to his Senate career, Dodd represented Connecticut's 2nd congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1975 to 1981.

A native of Connecticut, Dodd's educational journey included Georgetown Preparatory School and Providence College. He followed in his father's footsteps, Thomas J. Dodd, who served as a U.S. Senator from 1959 to 1971. Before pursuing a legal career, Dodd dedicated two years to the Peace Corps and served in the Army Reserve while attending the University of Louisville School of Law.

Dodd's political ascent began with his election to the House in 1974, followed by re-elections in 1976 and 1978. He became a senator in 1980 and took on significant roles, including Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee from 2007 until his retirement. In addition to his legislative responsibilities, he served as the general chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 1995 to 1997. Dodd launched a presidential campaign in 2006 but ultimately withdrew.

After announcing in January 2010 that he would not seek re-election, he transitioned to the Motion Picture Association of America as chairman and chief lobbyist from 2011 to 2017. In 2018, he re-entered the legal field with Arnold & Porter and remains an influential figure as an advisor to President Joe Biden, serving on the vice presidential selection committee and as a member of the ReFormers Caucus of Issue One.
