Matthew Adam Garber was a British child actor, born on March 25, 1956, in Stepney, London. Growing up in a theatrical family, Garber's parents were both actors, although they did not achieve widespread fame. His talent was discovered in 1963 by actor Roy Dotrice, who recognized Garber's potential and recommended him to Disney's casting department. His distinctive mannerisms, including expressive facial gestures, helped him secure a role in "The Three Lives of Thomasina" as Geordie McNab, a young companion to a Scottish girl, played by Karen Dotrice.

Garber's most significant career highlight came in 1964 when he starred as Michael Banks in the beloved classic "Mary Poppins." This film became the pinnacle of his acting career, showcasing his charm alongside Dotrice, who portrayed his sister, Jane. He went on to appear in his final film, "The Gnome-Mobile" (1967), playing Rodney Winthrop, who, along with his sister, endeavored to help a centuries-old gnome regain his will to live.

After a brief but impactful film career, Garber returned to his education, attending St Paul's Primary School and later Highgate School, from which he graduated in 1972. Tragically, in 1977, during a trip to India, he contracted hepatitis, which later led to his untimely death on June 13 at the age of 21. His contributions to cinema were recognized posthumously when he was named a Disney Legend in 2004, ensuring his legacy within the industry.
