He gained notable recognition for his portrayal of Conrad McMasters, the loyal private investigator on the beloved legal drama *Matlock*, which aired from 1989 to 1993 alongside Andy Griffith. Gilyard also played significant parts in the *Left Behind* film series as Pastor Bruce Barnes, showcasing his versatility in dramatic roles.
