Elspet Jean Gray, Baroness Rix (12 April 1929 – 18 February 2013), was a celebrated Scottish actress whose career spanned several decades, highlighted by her work in theater and television. She gained significant recognition for her collaborations with her husband, Brian Rix, particularly in the realm of Whitehall farces, which they performed at the iconic Whitehall Theatre and later at the Garrick Theatre.

Gray's television presence flourished in the 1970s and 1980s, with notable roles including Lady Collingford in the beloved series *Catweazle* and Mrs. Palmer in *Solo*, where she starred alongside Felicity Kendal. Her performances showcased her comedic talents and ability to engage audiences.

In 1949, she married Brian Rix, and together they raised four children, including their eldest daughter, Shelley, born in 1951 with Down syndrome. This personal experience spurred Gray and Rix to become passionate advocates for individuals with disabilities. Their advocacy efforts were significant, with Rix serving as chairman and president of Mencap, an organization dedicated to supporting those with learning disabilities. In recognition of his contributions, he was appointed a life peer in 1992.
