Cheryl Thompson
Dr. Cheryl Thompson serves as an Assistant Professor at Ryerson University within the School of Creative Industries. In addition to her teaching role, she is affiliated with The Yeates School of Graduate Studies and the Graduate Program in Communication & Culture, where she completed her Master’s degree in 2007. Thompson is an accomplished author, with her debut book, *Beauty in a Box: Detangling the Roots of Canada’s Black Beauty Culture*, released by Wilfrid Laurier Press in 2019. Her insightful exploration of beauty standards and cultural identity garnered significant attention. Following this, her second book, *Uncle: Race, Nostalgia, and the Politics of Loyalty*, was published in February 2021 by Coach House Books, further establishing her as a prominent voice in discussions surrounding race and culture. Through her academic and literary contributions, Dr. Thompson continues to engage with critical issues related to identity, representation, and the complexities of Black beauty culture in Canada.
