**Tom Curren Biography**
Tom Curren made his mark on the ASP World Tour in 1983, quickly establishing himself as a formidable competitor by defeating seasoned surfers like Rabbit Bartholomew, Shaun Tomson, and Cheyne Horan. Over his illustrious career, he clinched the World Championship title three times, in 1985, 1986, and 1990, and amassed an impressive 33 championship victories, a record surpassed only by the legendary Kelly Slater. Known for both his competitive spirit and unique surfing style, Curren chose to step back from the competitive scene in the mid-1990s.
One of the highlights of Curren's career came in 1990 at Margaret River, where he executed a remarkable ride that spanned approximately 1200 feet from the take-off zone to the Rivermouth, a feat that has yet to be replicated in or out of competition.
Although he retired from the professional circuit, Curren continues to participate in the ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS) and is frequently invited as a wildcard in World Championship Tour (WCT) events. He has also been a recurring participant in the Annual Switchfoot Bro-Am Surf Contest, riding alongside the Switchfoot team.
During his ascent to becoming a World Surfing Champion, Curren was associated with Channel Islands surfboards, where he co-produced popular models like the Black Beauty and the Red Beauty. His early career also saw him collaborating with OP swimwear before shifting to Rip Curl Wetsuits and Clothing for sponsorship.
